Propagation and amplification of incoherent pulses in dispersive and nonlinear media

چکیده
We develop a statistical model to study all the relevant phenomena that can give rise to an anomalous intensity saturation in the propagation of incoherent pulses in a laser amplifier. The interplay among diffraction, self-focusing, group-velocity dispersion, gain narrowing, and gain saturation is investigated. Changes in the temporal and spatial characteristics of the pulses are shown. © 1998 Optical Society of America [S0740-3224(98)01811-6] OCIS codes: 030.6140, 140.4480, 190.3270.

Measurement of net group and reshaping delays for optical pulses in dispersive media.
We experimentally demonstrate the direct measurement of net group and reshaping delays for arbitrary optical pulses in dispersive media, verifying the earlier prediction of Peatross et al. [Phys. Rev. Lett. 84, 2370 (2000)]. Incoherent pulse propagation in an absorptionless system is well described by net group delay; even the medium causes a great deal of deformation in the transmitted pulse. ...

We characterize the pulse propagation on a travelingwave field-effect transistor (TWFET) with the drain line periodically loaded with Schottky varactors for short pulse amplification. Owing to the coupling between the gate and drain lines, two propagation modes are developed on a TWFET. It is expected that the pulses carried by one of the two modes are uniquely amplified, whereas those carried ...
متن کاملNew approach to pulse propagation in nonlinear dispersive optical media
We develop an intuitive approach for studying propagation of optical pulses through nonlinear dispersive media. Our new approach is based on the impulse response of linear systems, but we extend the impulse response function using a self-consistent time-transformation approach so that it can be applied to nonlinear media as well. Numerical calculations based on our new approach show excellent a...
متن کاملAiry-soliton interactions in Kerr media.
We investigate and analyze temporal soliton interactions with a dispersive truncated Airy pulse traveling in a nonlinear fiber at the same center wavelength (or frequency), via split step Fourier numerical simulation. Truncated Airy pulses, which remain self-similar during propagation and have a ballistic trajectory in the retarded time frame, can interact with a nearby soliton by its accelerat...
متن کاملNumerical solution of nonlinear wave equations in stratified dispersive media
Nonlinear wave motion in dispersive media is solved numerically. The model applies to laser propagation in a relativistic plasma. The latter causes, besides dispersion, nonlinear effects due to relativistic mass variation in the presence of strong laser pulses. A new variant of the Gautschi–type integrator for reducing the number of time steps is proposed as a fast solver for such nonlinear wav...
